I have been really irritable for the past several months. I'm not depressed, just cranky. Does anyone else experience this, and is it neurological, psychological, or just circumstantial?

Hi lkgreg, I think that what you're talking about is kinda natural to us considering how our lives have changed. We lost a good part of what other folks take for granted and we're angry and jealous. Because you find that you have an "attitude" now doesn't mean that you're depressed. You want to live a normal life with its ups and downs but you don't need any further unnecessary obstacles getting in the way to block whatever goal you have selected. Remember, you didn't ask for this so it is what it is. Just don't let it overwhelm you.

I forget where you live, but if in the Northern Hemisphere you may also be suffering from SAD = Seasonal Affective Disorder. Some people's moods are significantly affected by the lack of sunlight at this time of year. Everyone occasionally gets "Winter Blues", but if your irritability is persistent during the darker days of the year, getting outside or purchasing a light box may be beneficial.
Other than that, I agree with the TBI.

Thanks for trying to cheer me up with the music teddyboy. Sunnykay, I live in Texas and spend a lot of time outdoors, so no SAD around here. I'm concerned it's neurological because I've noticed I've been consistently more irritable since my last seizure in September. It could be circumstantial with worrying about my diagnosis, daily stress, etc., but usually I'm pretty laid back. I typically take things in stride. I'm probably going to get written up at work. Today I had a tantrum and starting swearing and banging things around. I've never done anything like that in my life. I don't even swear, or at least not like that. |

| Thanks for your thoughtfulness Teddyboy. I'm going to try to get in to see my neurologist. When I told a friend what happened, she said that was definitely not me and to call the doctor ASAP. |
|
|
|
| I saw the neurologist today. He said the irritability could be neurological. He's now pretty confident I have capital A Ataxia and not just ataxia as a symptom. He's ordering the SCA panel and a bunch of other tests. |

|
howdy lara ,
its good you got to see your neuro so fast
many times neuros can only diagnose Ataxia by a process of eliminating everything else
you mentioned in a previous post that if you think of Ataxia too much it can be stress you out....or words to that effect
stress can also contribute to irritability and being cranky
now is the time for that laid back lara to emerge

I'll try. |
