Relation between vitamin deficiencies and ataxia (sentient)

Do many of you have low levels of (one or more) B-12, B1, D and E? I am especially curious about those of you who have a genetic SCA?

After a lot of reading, I am logically inclined to think that low vitamin levels are not caused by a neurological condition, but rather due to malabsorption or bad diet. Now, in our case, these low levels are either incidental or the cause of ataxia (a few B-12 sites talk about ataxia).
This leads me to the conclusion that some of the side-effects talked about here are due to low vitamin levels rather than Cerebellar Ataxia. e.g. skin disorders could be due to low D or B12 levels rather than SCA.

Anyone have any thoughts/ideas otherwise?

On a side note, I see that gluten allergies cause malabsorption, and additionally directly affect the brain because the gliadin antibodies destroy the Purkinje cells, so it's a double-whammy.

I think you're right.

Just because somebody has a sympton, it doesn't follow that it is the result of something extremely rare.

It's kind of like replacing the transmision immediately when the car won't go when the problem may be an empty gas tank.

Moral - seriously contemplate the obvious before the extremely rare

I have low levels. I give myself B12 shots every week. its very easy. have your doc show you how its much cheaper. I take b1 and D 50,000 units 1x a week. I can't say its helping but I don't want to stop. I have hereditary SCA2.

moilerner, taking vitamins may not directly address your ataxia yet, because other factors/causes are involved (like bad proteins they talk about), but do you see your vitamin levels becoming "normal"?

I am trying to conclude if the neuro condition causes low vitamin levels, or they are more or less independent and just happen to occur together.

I am getting my levels checked in March. my D levels were still low even after I had been taking it for a time.
