Katie Rose, I take Cal Mag citrate with vitamin D. You need magnesium along with calcium to prevent calicification of your soft tissue. RDA recommends 1500 mg a day. No side affects. I am 68 and had ataixia since I was 55. Magnesium calms your muscles. I have no tremors in my hands or legs. I had severe cramps since I started taking cal mag I have no more cramps. Moilerner on this forum asked for advice for his cramps in his legs and I suggested taking 1500 mg cal mag and he wrote his legs feel better. Worth a try. Here is a website on magnesium read the testamonials of Starlett of Atlanta Georgia and Christine of Wilton Connecticut. I feel muscle twitches are a form of tremors. http://www.Rejuuv.com |

hi katie ,
if you google amantadine most of the info on it is there
i cant offer any first hand use experience
i can tell you it has nothing to do with rejuuve ....save your money
magnesium is required by muscles..... amantadine is not magnesium
muscle twitches are not tremors
your neuro has prescribed amantadine for a specific purpose
As an antiparkinsonian it can be used as monotherapy; or together with L-DOPA to treat L-DOPA-related motor fluctuations (i.e., shortening of L-DOPA duration of clinical effect, probably related to progressive neuronal loss) and L-DOPA-related dyskinesias (choreiform movements associated with long-term L-DOPA use, probably related to chronic pulsatile stimulation of dopamine receptors).
it is also used for MS and has other off label uses

hi Katie Rose,
I took amantadine about a year ago and the only thing it did was give me no appetite. so I lost about 20 lbs. I didn't stay on it for long. I have tried other meds. propanolol helps some, but for me I couldn't stop crying so I immediately stopped taking it. I'm taking chantix which helped some people but I'm starting to shake and bounce more than usual so I'm lowering my dose. I think it's ok to try things and if they work for you that's great. if not you can go off it. some meds you have to wean off of because the side effects can be pretty bad.

hi Hamachi,
I notice you called me "he" in your response to Katie Rose. I just want to clarify that I'm a 52 yr female. Moi was the name of my first cat. if you go to this website you'll see my photo. what form of ataxia do you have?

Moilerner, Sorry I referred to you as he. I went to UCLA Neurological Group and was tested for SCA6 was found negative. There are two ataxia that are prevalent in Japan they are SCA6 and DRPLA so if I am negative for SCA6 I must have DRPLA. This is substantiated by my two sisters. The oldest sister had dementia at 78 and died at 82. The other sister shows signs of dementia. Dementia is one of the symptoms of DRPLA. I am 68 so I should have 10 good years left. |

My father took amantadine, Brand Name Symmetrel, for years. The first couple of years it helped improve his walking to a mild but noticeable degree. He stayed on it for most of the remainder of his life, and as my Mom points out, he never had the flu and very rarely got a cold during that time. Amantadine has been used in the past for treatment/prevention of certain strains of influenza.
PS My father hated taking ANY medications, even over-the-counter. However, this is the one med he never complained about and always took.

Moilerner, By taking cal mag for your cramps there are other benefit as well. We ataxians are prone to falling so taking cal mag will strengthen our bones from brakage and cal mag also protects us from getting osteoporoes especially women. |

| I have tried Amantadine twice, and it made my symptoms worse. Did not try it for long. I am trying Buspar now. Just started, low dose, so far makes me dizzier, but I'm going to give it time. The amantadine I could not give it time as I could not drive while taking it. I was just advised to take 400 mgs of COQ10. Linda |
