He received his MD an d PhD (Neuroscience) degrees from the University of Malaga (Spain). After completing a neurology residency and fellowship on Movement disorders/Neur ogenetics at the University of Iowa (UI)\, he joined the faculty at that i nstitution where he remained for over a decade. Dr. Gonzalez-Alegre joined the Department of Neurology at the University of Pennsylvania in 2014\, w here he became the founding Director of the of the Neurogenetic Program\, which includes that Ataxia Clinic\, at the Department of Neurology of the University of Pennsylvania and Director of Clinical Programs at the Raymon d G. Perelman Center for Cellular & Molecular Therapy at the Children Hosp ital of Philadelphia. In addition to providing clinical care to those livi ng with ataxia and their families\, Dr. Gonzalez-Alegre is an active resea rcher and educator. His research efforts are geared towards the developmen t of novel therapeutic strategies for inherited neurological diseases such as spinocerebellar ataxia\, including development of innovative technolog y to improve delivery of therapeutic agents to the human brain. About the Expert
