Evaluation of At-Home Wrist and Ankle Wearable Sensors to Produce Sensitive and Functionally Relevant Digital Outcome Measures in Spinocerebellar Ataxia Types 3 and 2
To evaluate the sensitivity and meaningfulness of wearables-based outcome measures in a dedicated study in SCA2 and SCA3. The purpose of the wearable device is to accurately measure the movement and activity levels of the subject during normal daily living at home.

What does participation in the study entail?
The study is remote. We will ask you wear a wrist and ankle device during the day for 2 weeks at a time every 3 months, for 18 months total. You will also fill out a few surveys during those two weeks wear-periods. You will also be asked to be a part of the CRC-SCA natural history study. If you are not already a part of the natural history study, you can enroll in any of 14 United States sites. The natural history study would entail an annual visit to a neurologist at one of the 14 sites, serving as the only in-person portion of the study.Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
What are the potential benefits for participants?
It is hoped that this will produce data and information that ultimately could offer benefit to people with neurodegenerative disorders by reducing clinical trial size and duration and expedite the discovery of effective therapies for neurodegenerative disorders.
What are the potential risks for participants?
There are minimal risks to the study.
Is there financial compensation?
Yes – $350
Who is eligible?
We are looking for those ages 18-74 with a confirmed genetic diagnosis of SCA2 or SCA3 who can walk without an assistive walking device (capable but doesn’t need to be all the time). Participants should have ataxia symptoms, be fluent in English, and be reachable by phone/video calls.
