Geographic Restrictions
Ideally donors should live within 2 hour travel time from Newcastle, although they do sometimes make exceptions to this.  This is because the donation needs to be achieved quite quickly following the donor’s death. 

Preexisting Patient or Study Participant Restrictions
Donors need to have a formal diagnosis and to agree to allow access to their medical records. This is because this information will be required to enable donated tissue to be of value for research. It is preferable donors be a part of a study but not necessary.

Other Restrictions
We cannot accept donors with any infectious disease which would make the samples hazardous to work with.  In addition even if someone is registered, we may reluctantly have to refuse a donation if we are unable to make suitable arrangements for this to be achieved within a reasonable time scale.

Tissues donated to this brain bank are restricted for research purposes.

Those interested in registering will be sent information by email or mail and if after consideration and discussion, they wish to register, will be asked to complete a consent form. nbtr.ncl.ac.uk/
