No. However, geographic restrictions could apply due to the timing and transportation constraints.

Preexisting Patient Restrictions
No, but there may be costs associated with brain collection and transportation if they are not a preexisting UCLA patient. This can be determined when the patient applies to the program. 

Study Participant Restrictions
No, this is not required for brain donation but for use of the tissue in research studies it is recommended that patients enroll with the UCLA Clinical Neurogenomics Research Center to ensure that the patient agrees to participate in future research, what types of research they agree to, and if returnable/diagnostic results are obtained whom they should be provided to. 

Other Restrictions
Following brain donation, the patient or family is responsible for the cost of transport from UCLA to the mortuary/crematory for both UCLA and non-UCLA patients.

Tissue Use Restrictions
Tissues donated to this brain bank are restricted for research purposes.

Fees
UCLA Patients:
1. Autopsy is without charge
2. UCLA will pay for transport of body to UCLA within a 100 mile radius
3. Patient/family is responsible for transport from UCLA to mortuary/crematory. UCLA transport company: Cedar Hill Accommodations: Phone (323) 255‐0710  Estimated at $125 per 100 miles over the 100 mile radius

Non-UCLA Patients:
1. Complete autopsy: $5000 or Brain only: $2000. This cost includes transport to UCLA within a 100 mile radius.
2. Patient/family is responsible for transport from UCLA to mortuary/crematory. UCLA transport company: Cedar Hill Accommodations: Phone (323) 255‐0710  Estimated at $125 per 100 miles over the 100 mile radius

How to Register
Patients should contact the UCLA Clinical Neurogenomics Research Center (CNRC) staff. Patients will be provided a research consent, which is preferred but not required, as well as an Autopsy permission form. The Autopsy permission form should be completed and sent back to CNRC.
