Conversations with families about genetic testing for hereditary Ataxia can be challenging! Strategies around initiating and navigating family conversations while managing common emotional barriers such as fear, guilt, and blame will be shared. The helpful roles of genetic counselors, neurologists, ataxia specialists and social workers will be reviewed, from testing and diagnosis to providing ongoing psychosocial supports to help families cope with uncertainty and future planning.
