Don’t Skip AAC in Denver Because of Weather – Here’s Why

Author: Linda Snider Sidwell, MD, NAF Board Member and Support Group Leader

The 2020 Annual Ataxia Conference in Denver, Colorado is going to be a world class conference with scientists, pharmaceutical companies, and of most importantly, Ataxians. I’m hoping to see you there. Why do you want to come to Denver you may ask yourself? Besides the obvious, there’s so much more going on! The conference itself is reason enough, but Denver is a great place to travel to. Let me tell you why…

The Weather Isn't As Bad As You Think

I know there is some concern about the weather, but you shouldn’t worry.  Denver gets more than 300 sunny days a year and gets more annual hours of sun than Miami and San Diego. This is probably the biggest surprise for new visitors. Winters are mild and the average high in March is 56 degrees Fahrenheit. Snow doesn’t stay on the ground long, so golfing and outdoor cafes are able to stay open all year.

The outdoor beauty of the region is unparalleled. There’s Garden of the Gods with its dramatic views, 300 foot towering rock formations against a snow-capped Pikes Peak and brilliant blue sky. Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre is easily accessible. Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a geological phenomenon and is the only naturally-occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheater in the world. Every musical artist aspires to play here.

Plus...Beer!

Do you like beer? Coors Brewing Company started in Denver. You can tour the factory. There are also many microbrews and pubs. There are so many highlights to Denver it’s too hard to cover. Denver is easy to get around with a light rail system and shuttle buses which are accessible. Please go to denver.org for more information.
