Support NAF for #GivingTuesday

Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that is recognized on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving each year, usually through social media efforts. To celebrate, people donate time, talents, and/or resources to causes that are important to them. This year, #GivingTuesday is on December 3, 2019

At NAF, Giving Tuesday always occurs during our Annual Ataxia Research Drive. This year, a group of donors pledged to match donations, up to $200,000. We’d love your help! There are several things you can do to help us reach the goal, such as: make a donation, start a Facebook fundraiser, or share this with your family and friends to ask for their participation. Here’s why we’d like you to get involved…

Your Impact on Ataxia Research

Your donation or fundraiser for #GivingTuesday will support Ataxia research. Our Annual Research Drive helps determine the number of research grants that we award each year. More donations equals more studies funded. NAF’s funding often gives researchers the start that they need to get their projects going.

Grants lead to discoveries and innovation in Ataxia research. For example, the first researchers to identify a gene defect for Ataxia began their studies with help from an NAF research grant. The important groundwork of Ataxia researchers paves the way for pharmaceutical companies to develop therapies to treat Ataxia. NAF is proud to help researchers in their efforts because we know that it will help our Ataxia families get better treatment options in the future.

Start a Facebook Fundraiser for Giving Tuesday

What can you do to help? Start a Facebook fundraiser! It’s easy and free. Facebook fundraisers give your family and friends a chance to support a cause that is important to you. Those little bits add up and make a big difference here at NAF. During the research drive, your Facebook donations and fundraisers will be designated to research AND the donations will be matched!

How to Set Up Your Facebook Fundraiser

To create a fundraiser for NAF on Facebook, follow these steps or use the button below:

  • Click Fundraisers in the left menu of your News Feed.
  • Click Raise Money
  • Select Nonprofit/Charity
  • Select “National Ataxia Foundation,” choose a cover photo, and fill in your fundraiser details (tell your story!)
  • Click Create
It’s that easy! Then invite your friends to donate or share your fundraiser. Anyone can donate to your fundraiser through Facebook. Facebook sends all of the money raised by your fundraiser directly to NAF – they don’t even charge a processing fee.

Facebook Will Match Donations on #GivingTuesday

As an added incentive, Facebook announced that they will match donations made through their platform on Giving Tuesday, up to $7 million! Donations made after 8:00 AM Eastern Time on December 3, 2019 will be eligible for the match. 

If you started a Facebook fundraiser – make sure to share it again after 8 AM on Giving Tuesday. Donations made by your friends at that time could be matched by Facebook AND the group of donors that are matching donations made to our research drive. One donation will have triple the impact!
