My name is Jorge Alonso, I am 33 years old I was diagnosed with ataxia at 31 or 30, although I really felt the disease since I was 15 years old, before I played soccer, suddenly I fell I began to feel limitations when I ran so I stopped playing, as there was something that stopped the disease, at 22 I finished university as an engineer in communications and electronics I came to work in hand-made companies, From 2017 to date that I have already been diagnosed with ataxia, lately I lose my balance and it is difficult for me to speak, but I have been in aquatic therapy which has helped me a lot, my balance improves and I feel that this is the key to cope with this problem, I have a 2-year-old son and my wife Susana whom I love deeply and are the reason for my existence and I hope to accompany you as a father and daughter.
When Were You Diagnosed? Which Type (If Known)?
They diagnosed me with it in 2021.
How Has Ataxia Impacted Your Life?
Since I was younger I indirectly knew that something was wrong with me, but now that I know that I have definitely affected me too much.
What is One Thing You’d Like the People to Know About Ataxia?
The disease is hard, at least I’ve had to deal with laughter, mockery but it’s a matter of ignoring and that they can move forward with the help of therapies.
Share Your Advice – How Can Others Support Someone with Ataxia?
With therapy it is key and to be consistent.

I would like to meet more people to know how they deal with this disease.
